Air France-KLM (AF) Group said it operated the world’s first commercial flight using bio-kerosene.
The KLM service from Amsterdam to Paris employed a Boeing Co. (BA) 737-800 single-aisle aircraft powered by bio-kerosene derived from used cooking oil, the airline said in a statement.
The fuel was suppled by Dynamic Fuels through SkyNRG, a venture founded by KLM in 2009 with the North Sea Group and Spring Associates, the Dutch carrier said. Some 200 test flights are planned for the same route in September, with a variety of raw materials to be used for the end product, none of which must require modifications to aircraft engines.
