Northern Japan Struck by 6.7 Earthquake

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck northern Japan at 6:51 a.m. local time. The quake, centered off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, registered 5 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7, the Japan Meteorological Agency said on its website. The agency warned of a 50-centimeter high tsunami.
