Peru Stocks: Alicorp, Austral, Edegel, Cerro Verde, Telefonica

The following companies had unusual price changes in Peru trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices are as of 4:10 p.m. New York time.

The Lima General Index fell 2.6 percent to 20,146.17. The MSCI All Peru Capped Index dropped 2.4 percent to 2,565.48.

Industrial stocks and utilities slumped after U.S. stocks declined on signs the American economy is cooling down, said Leoncio Altamirano, a trader at Lima-based Juan Magot y Asociados SAB.

Austral Group SA (AUSTRAC1 PE), a unit of Austevoll Seafood ASA, plunged 6.7 percent to 28 centimos. Telefonica del Peru SAA (TEF PE), the local unit of Telefonica SA (TEF), fell 4.5 percent to $22.52. Alicorp SA (ALICORC1) (ALICORC1 PE), Peru’s largest foodstuff maker, dropped 4.2 percent to 5.75 soles. Edegel SA (EDEGELC1 PE), the Peruvian unit of Spain’s Endesa SA, fell 4.1 percent to 1.87 soles. Casa Grande (CASAGRC1 PE), Peru’s largest sugar producer and a unit of Gloria SA, dropped 4.1 percent to 14.77 soles after sugar fell for a third day in New York.

Mining stocks dropped after metals declined in New York and London.

Alturas Minerals Corp. (ALT) , a Canadian copper and gold exploration company, fell 5.9 percent to 16 cents. Minsur SA (MINSURI1) (MINSURI1 PE), the world’s fourth-largest tin producer, dropped 4.6 percent to 3.55 soles. Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde SA (CVERDEC1 PE), a unit of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., declined 5.1 percent to $37. Cia. Minera Milpo (MILPOC1 PE), a zinc and lead producer controlled by Sao Paulo-based Votorantim Metais Ltda., slid 3.2 percent to 6.30 soles.
