Peru Stocks: Aceros Arequipa, Edegel, Siderperu, Volcan Rise
The following companies had unusual price changes in Peru trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices are as of 4:30 p.m. New York time.
The Lima General Index jumped 3.5 percent to 20,581.13. The MSCI All Peru Capped Index rose 3.1 percent to 2,585.75.
Mining, metal and energy companies rose for a second day, leading gains in Lima, after President-elect Ollanta Humala said in an interview with CNN en Espanol last night he may ask central bank President Julio Velarde to stay in his post, offsetting investors’ concerns he plans to scrap policies that led to the region’s fastest economic growth.
Edegel SAA (EDEGELC1) (EDEGELC1 PE), the Peruvian unit of Spain’s Endesa SA, soared 11 percent to 1.96 soles. Minera IRL Ltd. (MIRL) , a U.K. minerals explorer with a gold mine in Peru, rose 6.4 percent to $1.17. Steelmaker Empresa Siderurgica del Peru SAA (SIDERC1) (SIDERC1 PE), a unit of Gerdau SA known as Siderperu, gained 6.1 percent to 1.40 soles. Volcan Cia. Minera SAA (VOLCABC1 PE), Peru’s largest zinc producer, advanced 5.6 percent to 3.04 soles. Corp. Aceros Arequipa SA (CORAREI1 PE), the Lima-based steelmaker, climbed 5.4 percent to 2.73 soles.
Peru is the world’s biggest silver producer, and third in copper and zinc.
