Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Thailand trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 4:30 p.m. close in Bangkok.
The SET Index fell 8.20, or 0.8 percent, to 1,065.63.
Hospital operators: Vibhavadi Medical Center Pcl (VIBHA) rose 5.9 percent to 7.20 baht, Chiang Mai Ram Medical Business Pcl (CMR) surged 16 percent to 71 baht and Samitivej Pcl (SVH) rose 15 percent to 133 baht. Vibhavadi is seeking acquisitions to make itself more attractive as a takeover target for larger hospital operators, said Kawee Manitsupavong, an analyst with Asia Plus Securities Pcl. Vibhavadi, in a regulatory filing today, said it’s “not engaged in any other important issues, except for the acquisition of shares in Chiang Mai Medical.”
MSCI Index changes: Airports of Thailand Pcl (AOT) , Thailand’s biggest airfield operator, slid 1.9 percent to 38.5 baht, its biggest drop in a week. Siam City Cement Pcl (SCCC) , the second-biggest cement maker, fell 2.1 percent to 230 baht, the biggest decline since Feb. 24. Vinythai Pcl (VNT) fell 3.5 percent to 16.6 baht.
The three companies were included in the MSCI Thailand Index today, MSCI Inc. said in a May 16 statement.
Lanna Resources Pcl (LANNA) , Thailand’s second-biggest publicly traded coal producer, gained 0.9 percent to 29 baht, its highest close in two weeks, adding to yesterday’s 2.7 percent advance. The company’s net income may rise to a record 1 billion baht ($33 million) this year, as coal prices and volumes increase, Kasikorn Securities Co. wrote in a note to clients yesterday after a meeting with the company.
