Russia Signs Afghan Helicopter Deal With U.S., Kommersant Says

Russia and the United States signed an agreement to sell 21 Mi-17V5 transport helicopters to Afghanistan, Kommersant reported.

Russia will ship the first nine helicopters to Kabul this year and the remaining 12 in 2012, the Moscow-based newspaper reported, citing a statement from the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation. The deal may be worth over $300 million, according to people with knowledge of the transaction, Kommersant reported.
