Real IRA Claims Santander Bank Bomb in Derry, Irish News Reports

The Real Irish Republican Army claimed responsibility for a May 21 bombing of a branch of Banco Santander SA (SAN) in Derry, Northern Ireland, the Irish News reported.

The group telephoned the Belfast-based newspaper and using a recognized codeword claimed responsibility for the attack, the Irish News said.

The two kilogram (4.4 pound) bomb was placed in the bank by three masked men and exploded shortly afterwards causing extensive damage, the newspaper said.
