Merkel Describes Lagarde as ‘Excellent” Personality, DPA Says

German Chancellor Angela Merkel described French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde as an “excellent and experienced person” while stopping short of naming her as a candidate to head the International Monetary Fund, Deutsche Presse-Agentur said.

The chancellor, speaking today at a meeting of her Christian Social Union Bavarian allies, said there is broad support for Europe to put up a candidate, according to DPA.
