African Union Peacekeepers in Somalia Start ‘Operation’ Against Insurgents

The African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia started an operation yesterday with local troops against Islamic insurgents in the Hodan and Hawlwadag districts, Amisom, as the mission is known, said.
The operation led to the death of a commander of the insurgents in Hawlwadag, and several fighters, it said in an e- mailed statement today from Mogadishu, the capital. Two Amisom soldiers were killed and three injured, it said.
