MALAYSIA DAYBOOK: MMHE, Hap Seng, HeveaBoard, Coastal Contracts

Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd., the rig-building arm of MISC Bhd., said fourth- quarter net income rose 12 percent to 128.6 million ringgit from 115.2 million ringgit a year earlier.

This was due to improved performance in its engineering and construction division, the company said in an exchange.

WHAT TO WATCH: * RAM Rating Services Bhd. briefing after annual meeting at 11 a.m. * Aliran Ihsan Resources Bhd. (AIRB MK) said it’s exploring business opportunities outside of Johor state, including water, waste water and related construction works. * HeveaBoard Bhd. (HAVE MK) said Dongwha Malaysia Holdings Bhd. scrapped plans to buy its particleboard manufacturing plant assets after failing to agree terms on the 360 million-ringgit sale. * Coastal Contracts Bhd. (COCO MK) proposed a one-for-three bonus share issue and one-for-eight issue of free warrants. It also proposed buying back up to 10 percent of its issued paid-up share capital. * Hap Seng Consolidated Bhd. (HAP MK) 1Q profit doubled to 82.2 million ringgit on higher sales. * Hap Seng Plantations Holdings Bhd. (HAPL MK) said 1Q profit climbed 58 percent to 57.8 million ringgit as sales increased.

MARKETS on MAY 6: * Malaysia’s FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Index fell 0.4 percent. * The MSCI Asia Pacific Index dropped 0.9 percent. * The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.4 percent. * Palm oil July-delivery futures fell 1.1 percent to 3,195 ringgit a metric ton.
