Lonmin, Sappi Shares May Move: South African Equity Preview
The following stocks may rise or fall in South Africa. Symbols are in parentheses and prices are from the last close.
South Africa’s FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index rose 296.69, or 0.9 percent, to 31,878.83 in Johannesburg.
Lonmin Plc (LMI) : The third-largest platinum producer releases first-half earnings. The shares fell 80 cents, or 0.5 percent, to 170.10 rand.
Sappi Ltd. (SPP) : The world’s largest producer of glossy magazine paper releases earnings for the three months through March. Sappi climbed 25 cents, or 0.7 percent, to 34.65 rand.
The following shares begin trading without the rights to their latest dividends:
Brimstone Investments Corp. (BRN SJ), Cipla Medpro South Africa Ltd. (CMP SJ), Country Bird Holdings Ltd. (CBH SJ), IQuad Group Ltd. (IQG SJ) and PSG Group Ltd. (PSG SJ).
Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:
Anglo American Plc (AAUKY) increased 3.2 percent to $24.74. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) fell 0.3 percent to $45.65. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) rose 1.5 percent to $78.76. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY) fell 0.4 percent to $5.20. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) rose 0.1 percent to $15.92. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) gained 1.5 percent to $13.91. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) rose 2.8 percent to $27.65. Sappi Ltd. (SAP) was unchanged at $5.05. Sasol Ltd. (SSL) climbed 2.5 percent to $53.25.
