Thailand Stocks: Ekarat, Khon Kaen, SNC Former, Thai-German

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Thailand trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 4:30 p.m. close in Bangkok.

The SET Index fell 23.13, or 2.1 percent, to 1,070.43, the most since Feb. 10.

Ekarat Engineering Pcl (AKR) , a Thai producer of electricity transformers, slid 8.6 percent to 0.96 baht, the biggest retreat since Aug. 25. Investors are required to pay cash upfront before placing orders to buy shares of Ekarat from today to May 20, the bourse said in a statement.

Khon Kaen Sugar Industry Pcl (KSL) , Thailand’s only publicly traded sugar miller, dropped 2.9 percent to 13.2 baht, the largest decrease since Jan. 31. Sugar fell to the lowest price in almost seven months in London on speculation supply will more than suffice to meet demand as Thai production tops estimates and harvesting proceeds in Brazil.

SNC Former Pcl (SNC) , a Thai maker of air-conditioner parts, climbed 4.2 percent to 22.4 baht, the highest close since it listed in October 2004. Profit in the first quarter almost doubled to 177.1 million baht ($5.9 million) from 91.3 million baht in the same period last year.

Thai-German Ceramic Industry Pcl (TGCI TB), a producer of ceramic tiles, jumped 5.3 percent to 3.2 baht, the steepest advance since Dec. 16. Net income in the first quarter climbed 56 percent to 161.1 million baht, or 0.16 baht a share.
