New York Rejects Karsan Bid to Supply New Taxi Fleet, NYT Says
New York’s Taxi and Limousine Commission rejected a bid by Karsan Otomotiv Sanayii & Ticaret AS of Turkey to supply the next generation of taxis for the city, the New York Times reported.
Karsan’s van, which featured a moon roof for panoramic views, was rejected because of concerns about whether the Turkish company, untested in the U.S. market, could reliably execute the project, the newspaper said citing a city official it didn’t name because the decision hadn’t been made public.
The winning bidder will be announced this week, the newspaper reported. Ford Motor Co. (F) and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. are the other bidders.
