Merkel Asked for China for Artist Ai’s Release, Spiegel Reports

April 16 (Bloomberg) --German Chancellor Angela Merkel personally asked the Chinese government to release Ai Weiwei, an artist who was arrested in Beijing two weeks ago, Der Spiegel reported.
The human rights committee of the Bundestag also wrote to the Chinese President Hu Jintao on Ai’s behalf, the report said.
