Chile Stocks: La Polar, Molymet, Parque Arauco, Ripley, Vapores

The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 3:43 p.m. New York time.

The Ipsa index fell 0.4 percent to 4,694.00.

Cia. Sudamericana de Vapores SA (VAPORES CC) rose 0.2 percent to 367.34 pesos. Latin America’s largest container shipping company elected Guillermo Luksic, chairman of holding company Quinenco SA, as its new chairman. The company’s shareholders also approved April 8 the sale of $1 billion in new shares.

Empresas La Polar SA (LAPOLAR) fell 2.3 percent to 2,677.4 pesos, the steepest loss in more than two weeks. Luksic of Quinenco denied April 8 that he’s interested in buying a stake in the department store operator.

Molibdenos y Metales SA (MOLYMET) increased 0.7 percent to 10,994 pesos. The world’s largest molybdenum processor plans to invest $110 million in a catalytic converter recycling plant, El Mercurio wrote.

Parque Arauco SA (PARAUCO) fell 1 percent to 1,071.60. Ollanta Humala, a one-time ally of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, won the first round of voting in Peru’s national election, according to a preliminary count, and will face Keiko Fujimori in a second round. Parque Arauco operates shopping centers in Peru.

Ripley Corp SA (RIPLEY) , another Chilean retailer with operations in Peru, fell 0.3 percent to 610.03 pesos, the lowest price in three weeks.
