Seven companies have so far requested tender documents for the construction of a third bridge over the Bosporus Strait in Istanbul, Sabah newspaper reported.
The total cost of the bridge, associated highway and another bridge to be built over the Gulf of Izmit will be $11 billion or $12 billion, Sabah said, citing Cahit Turhan, head of the Turkish roads authority.
The Bosporus bridge will carry road traffic on its upper level, with a train line on the lower tier, the newspaper said. Turkey aims to conclude the bidding this year and break ground in 2012, the newspaper said.
