Australia, N.Z. Stocks: OZ Minerals, PanAust, Santos, Woodside

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index advanced 0.7 percent to 4,896.10 as of 10:35 a.m. in Sydney. New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index (NZSE50FG) was little changed at 3,455.15 in Wellington.

The following were among the most active shares in the market today. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names.

Copper producers: Minmetals Resources Ltd. (1208), the Hong Kong unit of China’s biggest metals trader, made an unsolicited offer of about C$6.3 billion ($6.5 billion) in cash for Equinox Minerals Ltd. (EQN) to add copper assets in Africa and the Middle East.

PanAust Ltd. (PNA) climbed 5.8 percent to 82 Australian cents. Discovery Metals Ltd. (DML) gained 3.5 percent to A$1.33. OZ Minerals Ltd. (OZL) rose 3.1 percent to A$1.64.

Oil stocks: Oil climbed for a third day in New York, reaching a 30-month high, after the U.S. added more jobs than economists forecast, signaling fuel demand may increase in the world’s biggest crude-consuming nation.

Woodside Petroleum Ltd. (WPL) , Australia’s second- biggest oil and gas producer, rose 1.4 percent to A$48.07. Santos Ltd. (STO AU) gained 1.4 percent to A$16.18.

New Zealand Oil & Gas Ltd. (NZO) , the nation’s biggest publicly traded explorer, climbed 2.2 percent to 94 New Zealand cents in Wellington.
