Thailand Stocks: Banpu, Lanna, Thoresen Thai, Union Plastic

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Thailand trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 12:30 p.m. break in Bangkok.

The SET Index rose 4.39, or 0.4 percent, to 1,031.93, set for the highest close since Jan. 19.

Coal producers: Crude oil for May delivery climbed to $105.75 yesterday, the highest settlement price since Sept. 26, 2008. Higher oil prices will boost demand for alternative fuels including coal.

Banpu Pcl (BANPU) , Thailand’s biggest coal producer, gained 1.1 percent to 756 baht, headed for the highest close since Feb. 23. Lanna Resources Pcl (LANNA) increased 2.5 percent to 24.3 baht.

Thoresen Thai Agencies Pcl (TTA) , the nation’s second- biggest shipping company by market value, added 1.1 percent to 19 baht. Thoresen said its Singapore-based unit, Soleado Holdings Pte., set up a joint venture to develop a new coal mine project in Indonesia.

Union Plastic Pcl (UP) , a producer of plastic products, jumped 5.4 percent to 23.6 baht, bound for the highest close since November 2003. The company will pay a cash dividend of 2 baht a share, it said in a regulatory filing.
