The French government condemned the crackdown on protesters in a southern Syrian town that resulted in deaths over the weekend.
France condemns the violence that led to several deaths and numerous wounded among demonstrators gathered Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Deraa,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bernard Valero, said an e-mailed statement. France “repeats its attachment to the right in all countries to protest peacefully.”
Valero called on the Syrian government to release all political prisoners and live up to human rights agreements that it’s signed.
