AMMB, Notion VTEC, Scientex, Scomi: Malaysia Equity Preview

The following companies may have unusual price changes in Malaysia trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and share prices are from the most recent close.

Malaysia’s FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBMKLCI) Index rose 0.8 percent to 1,503.89 on March 18.

AMMB Holdings Bhd. (AMM) : AmBank Bhd., a unit of Malaysia’s fourth-largest banking group by market value, hired five banks to help it get a $210 million three-year term loan, according to a person familiar with the matter. AMMB rose 1.1 percent to 6.37 ringgit.

Notion VTEC Bhd. (NVB) : The metal processor and tools maker said it will manufacture camera body mounts for Nikon Corp. following damage to some of the Japanese company’s plants in this month’s earthquake and tsunami. This may contribute as much as 60 million ringgit ($19.7 million) to annual sales, according to an exchange filing. The stock rose 5.7 percent to 1.85 ringgit.

Scientex Bhd. (SCI) : The chemicals company will form a 45 million-ringgit joint venture with Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals Tohcello Inc. to manufacture protective cell sheets used in solar panels, Managing Director Lim Peng Jin told reporters in Kuala Lumpur. Scientex fell 1.9 percent to 2.64 ringgit.

Scomi Engineering Bhd. (SEB) : The builder and engineering group may win a $782 million monorail project in Brazil with its local partners, the Edge weekly newspaper reported on March 19, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter. Scomi rose 6.9 percent to 85 sen.
