Palm oil producers: United Palm Oil Industry Pcl (UPOIC) , Thailand’s largest listed producer of the edible oil, declined 3 percent to 6.4 baht, the lowest close since Oct. 20. Chumporn Palm Oil Industry Pcl (CPI) lost 1.5 percent to 4.02 baht.
Palm oil futures in Malaysia declined for a second day on concern increasing global supply will weaken prices and as equities and commodities declined on concern Japan nuclear crisis may cripple its economy.
Berli Jucker Pcl (BJC) , a Thai producer of consumer goods, gained 3.5 percent to 17.7 baht, the biggest increase since Feb. 23. The company expects profit in 2011 to rise by 15 percent on new products, the Krungthep Turakij newspaper reported, citing President Aswin Techajareonvikul. The company plans to spend 2.4 billion baht ($79 million) to expand its plants, the newspaper said. Aswin was not available for comment after a call to his office.
