Itochu Agrees With Echelon to Develop, Sell Smart Grid Equipment in Japan

Itochu Corp., Japan’s fourth-biggest trading company, agreed with San Jose, California-based Echelon Corp. to develop and sell the U.S. company’s smart grid equipment and software.

Itochu will focus initially on selling Echelon’s products in Japan before developing new applications for the firm’s smart grid servers and software, Echelon said yesterday in a statement. Financial details weren’t disclosed.
