Spain’s Opposition PP Extends Opinion Poll Lead, Pais Reports

Spain’s opposition People’s Party extended its lead over the ruling Socialists to 14.9 percentage points, El Pais reported, citing a poll.

The PP would win 43.3 percent of the vote if elections were held now, compared with 43.1 percent in January, the newspaper said, citing a poll by Metroscopia. Support for the socialists dropped to 28.4 percent from 28.6 percent, the newspaper said, citing the poll.

If Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, the deputy prime minister, were to run against the PP’s Mariano Rajoy, 40.5 percent would vote for him against 44.1 percent for Rajoy, the poll cited by El Pais showed.

The poll of 1,005 people was carried out from Feb. 2 to Feb. 3 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points, the newspaper reported.
