Ecuador’s Correa Knew About Brother’s Contracts, Inmediato Says

President Rafael Correa knew his brother was receiving contracts from the state, according to a report by the nation’s Citizen Participation Council, a government watchdog, EcuadorInmediato said.

Correa’s brother Fabricio received about $700 million in government contracts, under which he overcharged the state about $140 million, the Quito-based newspaper said today, citing Carlos Polit, the nation’s comptroller. The newspaper didn’t say when Fabricio was awarded the contracts.

Fabricio Correa, an engineer, is president of Guayaquil- based Aplitec SA, a hydraulic and industrial infrastructure builder. Three telephone calls by Bloomberg News to the president’s office today went unanswered. A message left for Fabricio Correa at his offices in Guayaquil today wasn’t immediately returned.
