Eurocopter Says Opens North Sea Center in Aberdeen, Scotland
Eurocopter UK Ltd. said it opened a service center for training pilots and repairing helicopters in the Scottish city of Aberdeen, Europe’s busiest heliport.
Currently, 100 Eurocopter helicopters are operated in the North Sea, generating more than 100,000 flight hours a year, the Oxford, England-based Eurocopter said in an e-mailed statement today. A total of 45 are based at Aberdeen, another 11 are located at other U.K. bases, along with 31 across Norway. There are a further eight in the Netherlands, and five in Denmark.
“Eurocopter selected Aberdeen for the new facility because of its location at the heart of U.K. oil and gas exploration,” said the company, adding a total 10 million pounds ($16 million) was invested in the center, which includes an EC225 helicopter flight simulator.
There are a total of 450 Eurocopter helicopters in operation in Britain. Eurocopter is owned by the European Aeronautic, Defence & Space Co. and employs about 15,600 people.
