Azerbaijani Embassy Worker Shot Dead in Egypt, Ministry Says
An Azerbaijani embassy worker was shot dead in Egypt yesterday, the Foreign Ministry said.
Nijat Gojayev, the embassy accountant, was fatally wounded when he was returning home from work in Cairo, ministry spokesman Elkhan Polukhov said in an interview with Bloomberg.
It is unclear who opened the fire, Polukhov said, adding that Gojayev’s body would be flown home today.
Gojayev was killed by a stray bullet, Hikmat Hajiyev, first secretary of the Azerbaijani embassy, told private Azerbaijani news channel ANS.
President Ilham Aliyev has told his government to organize the evacuation of Azerbaijani nationals from Egypt.
