Kim Clijsters Beats Vera Zvonareva, Will Face Li in Australian Open Final

Kim Clijsters moved to the brink of her second straight Grand Slam tennis title, defeating Vera Zvonareva to reach the women’s final of the Australian Open.

Clijsters, a 27-year-old Belgian who won the U.S. Open in September, will face China’s Li Na for the championship.

Clijsters’s 6-3, 6-3 victory today at Rod Laver Arena will move her past Zvonareva and into the No. 2 spot in the world rankings behind Caroline Wozniacki. Zvonareva was trying to reach her third straight Grand Slam final.

Li fought off a match point in the second set earlier today before beating Wozniacki 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 and becoming the first Chinese player to reach a Grand Slam singles final.
