European Union Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger said he will present on March 10 a plan including “far-reaching” methods to increase energy efficiency in the 27-nation bloc.
The EU member states must boost efficiency in the coming years to avoid missing their political goal of increasing it by 20 percent by 2020, Oettinger told a seminar organized by the European Policy Centre in Brussels today. Adopting binding energy efficiency targets is an option that national governments could consider, he said.
