Davis Love III to Become U.S. Ryder Cup Captain, New York Times Reports

Davis Love III will be chosen as captain of the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup team by the PGA of America, the New York Times said, without revealing its source.

The 46-year-old Love was an assistant to U.S. captain Corey Pavin for the last edition of golf’s premier team event, which Europe won by one point at Celtic Manor Resort in Wales in October.

Love has played in the biennial contest six times. His appointment will be announced Jan. 20, the Times reported.

The 2012 Ryder Cup is scheduled to be played in late September at Medinah Country Club near Chicago.
