Pope John Paul Will Be Beatified by Vatican May 1 for Parkinson's Miracle

The late Pope John Paul II will be beatified on May 1 this year after the Vatican decreed that the miracle cure of a French nun from Parkinson’s Disease was due to his intervention, the Associated Press reported, citing a decree by his successor, Pope Benedict XVI.

Beatification is the last stage before being named as a saint, which would require a second miracle to be formally attributed to him by the Vatican, the newswire said.
