Grandchild of Phillies' Dallas Green Was Arizona Victim, Daily Star Says

Christina-Taylor Green, the 9-year- old girl killed in yesterday’s deadly shooting in Tucson, was the granddaughter of former Phillies manager Dallas Green, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

Dallas Green, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, managed the Philadelphia Phillies when they won the World Series in 1980, the newspaper said.

She had gone with a neighbor to meet U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, an Arizona Democrat, at a political event in Tucson, the newspaper said. Christina-Taylor, who was born on Sept. 11, 2001, and was interested in politics from a young age, had just been elected to the student council at Mesa Verde Elementary School, the Daily Star said, citing her father.

Her father, John, is a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
