A clause requiring the Workers Party of Korea to hold a general convention every five years was scrapped, Yonhap said. The party can now elect senior members and revise rules with a group of senior delegates, it said.
The party’s Central Military Commission has also gained in power at the expense of the government’s National Defense Commission, the South Korean agency said. Kim’s son Kim Jong Un is a vice chairman of the CMC. He doesn’t have a post on the NDC. The head of the party will also automatically become head of the CMD, Yonhap said.
