Fed’s Bernanke to Address Reporters, Answer Questions on Feb. 3
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke plans to speak Feb. 3 at the National Press Club, taking the opportunity to answer reporters’ questions at the Washington-based organization for the first time in two years.
Bernanke’s plans were confirmed today by Michelle Smith, a Fed spokeswoman, and Mark Hamrick, the press club’s president- elect. Hamrick said he will moderate about 40 minutes of questions and answers after Bernanke gives a speech.
Fed officials are undertaking their broadest review of public communications in three years, including weighing whether Bernanke should hold regular press conferences and where to draw the line between confidential policy discussions and public comments, the central bank said in November.
Bernanke gave an interview televised Dec. 5 on CBS Corp.’s “60 Minutes” program defending the Fed’s expansion of record monetary stimulus.
