Andy Dalton passed for one touchdown and ran for a second as Texas Christian University completed its season unbeaten with a 21-19 win over the University of Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.
Dalton completed 15 of 23 passing attempts for 219 yards for the Horned Frogs (13-0) in Pasadena, California.
With two minutes left in the game, Tank Carder deflected a two-point conversion pass attempt to prevent the Badgers from tying the score. The Horned Frogs then recovered the onside kick to take possession for the rest of the game.
“In my 13 years here, we started from nothing and now we have everything,” said coach Gary Patterson in a televised interview.
Philip Welch kicked two field goals for Wisconsin (11-2).
In the Outback Bowl played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Lerentee McCray returned a blocked punt 27 yards for a score and Ahmad Black snatched an interception and ran 80 yards for a touchdown as Florida defeated Penn State 37-24.
Chas Henry added three field goals for the Gators (8-5), who gave their retiring coach Urban Meyer a final victory.
Holding a 24-20 lead at the end of the third period, the Nittany Lions (7-6) were shut down in the final quarter.
Gator Bowl Win
At Everbank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, Chris Relf passed for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth and Vick Ballard rushed for three as Mississippi State (9-4) defeated Michigan 52-14 in the Gator Bowl.
Relf completed 18 of 23 passing attempts for 281 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Denard Robinson connected on 27 of 41 attempts for 254 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for the Wolverines (7-6).
In the TicketCity Bowl at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Taylor Potts threw for four touchdowns and ran for a fifth as Texas Tech beat Northwestern 45-38. Potts completed 43 of 56 passing attempts for 369 yards for the Red Raiders (8-5).
The Wildcats (7-6) lost their eighth straight bowl game since 1949.
In the Capital One Bowl, Eddie Lacy and Mark Ingram each rushed for two touchdowns as Alabama (10-3) defeated Michigan State (11-2) 49-7 at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
The Sooners ended the season 12-2, while the Huskies fell to 8-5.
