New York Jets Beat Bills Behind Brunell as Starters Sit Before Playoffs

Mark Brunell threw two touchdown passes as the New York Jets beat the Buffalo Bills 38-7 while resting starters in preparation for the National Football League playoffs.

Brunell took over at quarterback for starter Mark Sanchez after less than one quarter at New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on the final day of the NFL’s regular season.

The Jets benched other starters, including running backs LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene and their entire defensive backfield. New York (11-5) clinched a wild-card spot in the American Football Conference last week, with one of the two best records aside from four division winners. Buffalo finished 4-12.

The NFL postseason begins Jan. 8-9.
