Switzerland May Benefit From EU Membership, Vasella Tells Basler

Joining the European Union would be good for Switzerland from a business point of view, Daniel Vasella, chairman and former chief executive officer of Swiss drug company Novartis AG, told Basler Zeitung in an interview.

“As a businessman, I have to say that it is clearly an advantage to be part of a bloc,” Vasella said according to the newspaper. “The European Union has more negotiating powers, the borders within the bloc have waned and those at the periphery have been strengthened.” The more political influence is behind a company the better, he added. “That way it’s easier to negotiate with governments.”
