State Trading May Award NTPC Coal Import Tender, India Coal Says

State Trading Corp. of India Ltd. may award annual contracts to coal importers on behalf of NTPC Ltd. within a week, India Coal Market Watch said, citing T.K. Chatterjee, NTPC’s executive director for fuel procurement.

Adani Enterprises Ltd., Bhatia International Ltd., Knowledge Infrastructure Systems Ltd., Dubai-based Coal & Oil group and Ghumaz Traders have submitted bids, the coal newsletter said, citing Chatterjee.

Deliveries for a total of 12 million metric tons under contracts for the years ending March 2012 and March 2013 may start by January, India Coal Market Watch said.

NTPC has imported 7 million tons so far in the year ending March 2011 and may not meet its full-year import target of 12 million tons, the newsletter said, citing NTPC Executive Director S.N. Goel.
