IMF Says Europe Needs ‘Comprehensive’ Plan for Euro, Growth

European countries need to work together to restore economic growth and shore up the region’s common currency, International Monetary Fund spokeswoman Caroline Atkinson said today.

“We do believe that there’s a need for a comprehensive and integrated plan that’s a pan-European plan for reviving the eurozone and most importantly bringing back growth,” Atkinson told reporters at a press briefing in Washington.

“We also do believe that the Europeans themselves are committed to that and that it’s a manageable situation,” she said.

Atkinson said the IMF will continue to work with individual nations and with European authorities. She said the fund has “a liquidity position that is sufficient to meet any needs.”
