Dominion Resources Slows Millstone 2 in Connecticut

Dominion Resources Inc. slowed its 884-megawatt Millstone 2 reactor in Connecticut to 55 percent of capacity from full power on Dec. 10 to repair a leaking feedwater heater, a spokesman from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said.

“Dominion was planning to plug the leaking tube and return to full power,” Neil Sheehan said in an e-mailed response to questions.

The leak began over the weekend, and the water would have “very low” amounts of radioactivity because it is part of a system not circulated through the reactor, Sheehan said.

Calls by Bloomberg News to spokesmen at Dominion and the plant were not immediately returned with information.

Millstone 3, the other reactor at the plant located about 3 miles (5 kilometers) southwest of New London, is operating at full power, the NRC said.
