Storm Batters Egypt, Prompts Closure of Sea Ports
High winds battered Egypt for a second day, engulfing Cairo in a sandstorm and prompting authorities to close five sea ports.
A building collapsed in the city of Alexandria due to heavy rainfall, Al Jazeera television reported, without saying how it obtained the information. Authorities in the city closed off its port yesterday, the state-run Middle East News Agency reported.
The port of Damietta has also been closed since yesterday, the Cairo-based news agency reported. Three other ports on the Gulf of Suez were also shut down, it said.
Conditions are expected to improve from tomorrow, the state-run news agency reported, citing the country’s official meteorological office.
