Athens Shop Workers to Resist Sunday Opening, Kathimerini Says

Greece’s shop workers’ union has called a 24-hour strike for Dec. 12 in opposition to a decision by the Athens Traders Association, also known as ESA, to open that day, one of two Sunday openings in December, Kathimerini reported, citing ESA president Panagis Karellas.

Karellas told the newspaper that the decision to open on Dec. 12 is an attempt to reverse a fall in market confidence. Most shops in Greece remain closed on Sundays.
