RWE to Start Oil-Fueled Power Unit at Littlebrook

RWE AG, Germany’s second-biggest power producer, plans to start the 685-megawatt unit 1 at its oil-fired plant at Littlebrook in Kent, southeast England, according to National Grid Plc data.

The grid asked RWE to run the unit via the so-called bid- offer-acceptance market. RWE will earn 565 pounds ($885) a megawatt-hour from 2 p.m. in London, grid data show. Power stations fueled with heavy fuel oil are usually more costly to run than coal and gas plants.

Baseload power for next month rose 1.25 pounds, or 2.4 percent, to 53.75 pounds a megawatt hour, according to broker data on Bloomberg.
