Repsol Argentine Fields Resume Operations in South
Stock Chart for Repsol SA (REP)
Repsol YPF SA’s Argentine unit said it resumed operations at oil fields in the south of the country that had been suspended because of a strike.
Operations were restarted at oilfields in Chubut province after the provincial government intervened, while activities at fields in neighboring Santa Cruz province have been suspended since yesterday night, Buenos Aires-based YPF SA said today in an emailed statement. Five YPF employees were attacked by striking workers over the past five days, YPF said.
YPF is Argentina’s largest producer of crude and the second-biggest in natural gas. Operations in Santa Cruz and Chubut provinces, where the workers are on strike, produced about 44 percent of YPF’s crude and 9.5 percent of its gas this year through September, according to government data.
The strike by the union of supervisor-level workers started on Dec. 1, union leader Jose Llugdar said in a phone interview from the city of Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut. The union represents about 1,000 in Santa Cruz and Chubut, he said.
