New Zealand Posts Wider Budget Deficit on Slow Economic Growth
New Zealand’s budget cash deficit was wider than the government’s forecast as a slower-than-projected economic recovery curbed sales tax receipts and company profitability.
The cash deficit totaled NZ$7.45 billion ($5.7 billion) in the four months ended Oct. 31, or NZ$798 million more than forecast in May’s budget, the Treasury Department said in a statement released in Wellington today. Tax receipts were 5.3 percent less than forecast, it said.
