Turkish Air Passengers Hurt in Fire Alert Panic, Milliyet Says

Thirty passengers were slightly injured after a suspected fire caused panic on a Turkish Airlines jet at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport, Milliyet reported.

The Boeing 777-300 ER carrying 298 passengers and crew was about to take off for Bangkok last night when cockpit controls showed a possible fire in the rear cargo hold, the newspaper said. People were hurt in a scramble towards emergency exits and down inflatable slides.

No signs of fire were detected by the emergency services, Milliyet said. One of the airport’s runways was closed for 90 minutes as passengers disembarked and investigators examined the plane, it said.
