Cookpad, Oriental Land, Touei Housing: Japan Equity Preview
The following companies may have unusual price changes in Japanese trading today. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and share prices are as of the latest close. The information in each item was released after markets shut unless stated otherwise.
Alconix Corp. (3036 JT): The seller of non-ferrous metal products plans to raise as much as 1.56 billion yen ($19 million) in a new share sale. Also, Alconix said it received approval from the Tokyo Stock Exchange to move it to the bourse’s first section from the second. The stock rose 0.2 percent to 1,703 yen.
Cookpad Inc. (2193 JT): The operator of a recipe website will conduct a 2-for-1 stock split. Also, the company said first-half net income more than doubled to 459 million yen from 214 million yen a year earlier, with a 74 percent surge in sales. The stock increased 2 percent to 4,570 yen.
DKK Toa Corp. (6848 JT): The measuring instruments maker said it will retire 3.55 percent of its total shares on Dec. 20. The company also said it will raise about 1.06 billion yen from the sale of new shares to Hach Co., a Colorado-based maker of water analysis equipment. DKK gained 3.9 percent to 241 yen.
Fuji Kiko Co. (7260 JT): The autoparts maker said it will set up a venture to make car-seat parts in China with Tachi-S Co. (7239 JT) and a Chinese company. Fuji Kiko slid 1.5 percent to 264 yen. Tachi-S, a maker of seats for passenger cars and trucks, rose 0.2 percent to 1,329 yen.
Honda Motor Co. (7267 JT): The automaker will sell its stake in Hero Honda Motors Ltd., a joint motorcycle venture in India, for as much as 100 billion yen, the Nikkei newspaper reported. The stock gained 0.6 percent to 3,155 yen.
Kobe Steel Ltd. (5406 JT), Hitachi Metals Ltd. (5486 JT): The companies and other Japanese firms will form a venture by the end of this year to produce titanium used in aircraft, the Nikkei newspaper reported, without saying where it obtained the information. The other companies include IHI Corp. (7013 JT) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (7012 JT), the report said. Kobe Steel gained 0.5 percent to 197 yen. Hitachi Metals declined 1 percent to 976 yen. IHI advanced 1.1 percent to 180 yen. Kawasaki Heavy climbed 1.5 percent to 268 yen.
Kourakuen Corp. (7554 JT): The noodle-shop operator said sales at restaurants open for at least 13 months fell 8.7 percent in November from the same month a year earlier as the number of customers dropped 13 percent. The stock gained 1 percent to 1,169 yen.
Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corp. (4188 JT): The chemical maker’s Mitsubishi Plastics will start commercial production of licorice in Japan for use in traditional herbal medicine, the Yomiuri newspaper reported, without saying where it obtained the information. Mitsubishi Chemical gained 0.6 percent to 490 yen.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (7011 JT): Japan’s biggest heavy-machinery maker will invest as much as 100 million pounds over five years to develop an offshore wind turbine in Scotland, the company said in an e-mailed statement. The stock rose 0.3 percent to 304 yen.
Novarese Inc. (2128 JT): The wedding services provider will move to the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s first section from the Mothers section for start-ups as of Dec. 24, Novarese said in a release. The stock slid 0.7 percent to 55,000 yen.
Oriental Land Co. (4661 JT): The operator of Tokyo Disney Resort will join the Shanghai Disneyland development project, the Asahi newspaper reported. Oriental Land is in talks with Walt Disney Co. (DIS US) to discuss participation, the report said. Oriental Land slumped 1.9 percent to 7,610 yen.
Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories Ltd. (2395 JT): The provider of pre-clinical testing services said it will sell 1.4 million treasury shares to two companies. The stock was unchanged at 366 yen.
Sumitomo Trust & Banking Co. (8403 JT): The trust bank will acquire DBS Asset Management from DBS Bank of Singapore in exchange for 10 billion yen in shares of Sumitomo unit Nikko Asset Management Co., the Nikkei newspaper said, without citing anyone. The transaction will be signed today, the report said. The stock was unchanged at 458 yen.
Touei Housing Corp. (8875 JT): The homebuilder raised its full-year net income forecast 19 percent to 6.8 billion yen, citing increased sales and lower construction costs. The company boosted its planned yearend dividend to 40 yen per share from 25 yen. The payment includes a 10 yen commemorative dividend to mark its 60th anniversary. The stock rose 0.6 percent to 1,074 yen.
Toyota Motor Corp. (7203 JT): The carmaker plans to increase vehicle production in Thailand by 20 percent by the middle of next year, the Nikkei newspaper said. Separately, the company will cut its global production forecast to 7.8 million cars for 2011, the Asahi newspaper reported. The stock fell 0.5 percent to 3,275 yen.
Yakult Honsha Co. (2267 JT): The drink maker may sell its money-losing baseball team, the Nikkan Sports newspaper said. Cyber Agent Ltd. (4751 JT) may buy the team, according to the report. Yakult gained 1 yen to 2,356 yen. Cyber Agent was unchanged at 157,300 yen.
