Tokyo Has Heaviest Burst of Rain for December on Record, Agency Says

Tokyo today had the heaviest burst of rain for a December day on record, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. As much as 29 millimeters of rain (1.2 inches) was recorded between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. in the city’s downtown Chiyoda ward, the agency said on its website.

The rain delayed or halted services on 17 train lines as of 9:45 a.m., according to East Japan Railway Co.
