Tesoro Corp. will undertake planned maintenance at portions of its Los Angeles refinery in Wilmington, California, this month, according to its spokesman.
The maintenance will take place between Dec. 5 and Dec. 7, spokesman Mike Marcy said in an e-mail, declining to provide details on which units are involved.
The 97,000 barrel-a-day refinery processes heavy crude from California’s San Joaquin Valley and Los Angeles Basin as well as crudes from South America and other international sources, according to the company’s website. Tesoro may flare gases from Dec. 5 through Dec. 7 at the plant, the company said in a filing with the South Coast Air Quality Management District today.
“Although we don’t expect to flare where we burn off excess hydrocarbons, as a safety precaution during shutdowns and restarts during this activity as a matter of course, Tesoro submitted a flare notification as a contingency precaution,” Marcy said.
The refinery manufactures gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuels, petroleum coke and fuel oil.
