Tanzania Rations Electricity After Output Drop, Daily News Says

Tanzania Electric Supply Co., the state-run power utility, has begun scheduled power-rationing following a drop in output by private producers, the Daily News reported today, citing company spokeswoman Badra Masoud.

Industry has complained that the power cuts will hurt the economy, the Dar es Salaam-based newspaper reported today, citing business leaders including Tanzania Women’s Bank Ltd. Managing Director Margaret Chacha and Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture President Aloyce Mwamanga.

Power supplies to the commercial hub of Dar es Salaam and other areas including Tabora and Kilimanjaro will be affected by the outages, the newspaper said.
