The PlayStation Portable sold 236,775 units, compared with 147,016 for Nintendo’s handheld DS, Enterbrain Inc., a Tokyo- based market researcher, said in a report today. The release of Capcom Co.’s “Monster Hunter Portable 3rd” title for the PSP on Dec. 1 helped the handheld top hardware sales in the country for the first time in six months, according to the report.
Sony sold 123,748 PlayStation 3 game consoles in Japan last month, beating the 109,660 units for Nintendo’s Wii, Enterbrain said. “Gran Turismo 5,” a PS3 exclusive, was the best-selling software title in Japan last month with 410,486 copies, it said.
Sony fell 0.7 percent to 3,020 yen at the 3 p.m. close on the Tokyo Stock Exchange before the announcement. Nintendo added 0.4 percent to 23,450 yen in Osaka trading. The stocks have gained 13 percent and 6.4 percent respectively this year, beating the performance of Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average, which has lost 3.5 percent.
